Summary

The Estimator Earthworks & Distribution follows our culture of winning. At Iconic Power Systems we hate losing! The Estimator Earthworks & Distribution will work with the Estimating Manager and Proposal Coordinator to ensure that all aspects of the bid proposal are of superior quality including the look, feel, and accuracy of the quoted work. They will work with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure we obtain the most competitive price for an accurately defined SOW or BOM. The Estimator Earthworks & Distribution must work closely with the Estimating Manager, Project Managers, Construction Managers, HSSE Manager, Quality Manager, VP of Business Development, CEO and President to coordinate the inputs and review for all proposals. Once a proposal is awarded the Estimator Earthworks & Distribution will work with the Estimating Manager to organize the handover to the project teams.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in an office role, estimation or related job roles
  • 5+ years of construction experience working primarily in city environments that require asphalt cutting, curb repairs, trenching in the core of cities and neighbour hoods, PVC and Duct installation, works regularly with utility clients.
  • Trade certificate or previous work with trades in the field
  • Formal estimating training from a recognized technical institute is considered an asset.
  • InDesign and Accubid training considered an asset.

Skills

  • Knowledge of construction and ability to utilize knowledge for material take-offs.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff to provide timely responses and reviews to proposals under development.
  • Able to utilize provided client specific templates/proposals to provide IPS a competitive advantage.
  • Capable of developing estimates based on drawings and scopes of work.
  • Capacity to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients, suppliers and vendors.
  • Superior ability to meet tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Able to develop project schedules based on proposal details.

Duties

Estimating

  • Prepares quotations and proposals using standard templates using Accubid, InDesign and Microsoft Office software.
  • Prepares accurate estimates of costs of materials, labour, and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications to be reviewed by Management prior to submission.
  • Assist in the development of a project schedule with Microsoft Project.
  • Handover awarded proposals to project team.
  • Produce estimates based on collected contractual data for: Construction and EPC projects.
  • Accountable for all aspects of the estimate/proposal.
  • Prepare/review tender documents.
  • Prepare subcontractor lists and invitations to bid.
  • Review and equalize subcontractor quotes.
  • Provide Estimating Manager support for pre/post/awarded bid meetings.
  • Work with Procurement Manager to ensure all suppliers and contractors are pre-qualified.

Leadership

  • Engages in conflict resolution and works with managers, staff, and clients to resolve project scope clarification issues.
  • Attends regular tactical and strategic meetings as required.
  • Attends all project-relevant meetings such as project handoff, kickoffs, and reviews.
  • Obtain feedback from project teams regarding proposal budgets vs project actuals to help improve bid accuracy.
  • Support the development of large complex change orders from time to time.

Employment Pre-requisites and Requirements

  • D&A Testing and a background check is a mandatory requirement of this position.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • This position is a mix of office and field visits. A small portion of this position’s time will require field visits to assist in proposal development.
