Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist position involves working with the Operational Managers within the organization to support their HR needs. The HR Generalist helps to facilitate and consistently improve operational HR strategies related to labour relations, recruitment and onboarding, compensation, professional development, and succession planning. They also address HR related issues such as human rights complaints, performance management, investigations, and interpersonal conflicts using a just cause approach that promotes a transparent and psychologically safe environment for all staff.

The HR Generalist helps streamline HR processes by suggesting relevant insights and analyzing data. With the support of the HR Analyst, the HR Generalist maintains accurate and current data within the HR Dashboard and supports the Operational Managers within their portfolio to make data-informed decisions. An HR Generalist requires strong coaching, communication, conflict resolution, technical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail. The full-time position is located in Calgary, AB and hybrid in nature.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
  • Human resources certification (CHRP preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience working in the Human Resources Generalist role in a unionized environment.
  • Experience with human resources analytics.
  • Experience with talent assessment, acquisition, and development.
  • Construction industry experience will be considered an asset.

Duties

COACHING & CULTURE:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of HR practices, guidelines and regulations to monitor and provide advice regarding compliance with all employment laws, regulations and IPS policies, procedures and processes.
  • Support operational management in the successful leadership of their teams through goal setting and positive reinforcement.
  • Ability to design effective change management strategies for project and program implementation.
  • Use timely, clear and concise communication strategies to share information with the appropriate audience through the most effective medium.
  • Demonstrate just culture principles and focus on identifying and addressing root cause issues ensuring all stakeholders are engaged on the benefits of this approach.

LABOUR RELATIONS:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with union partners and internal IPS stakeholders focusing on recruitment, apprenticeship and health and safety functions.
  • Provide Managers with collective agreement interpretations and guidance in a professional and proactive manner.
  • In conjunction with operational management maintain accurate, current and detailed records related to labour relations and performance management matters.
  • Provide collective agreement insights and future negotiation topics throughout the term of the collective agreement and participate in negotiation preparation.

RECRUITMENT & ONBOARDING:

  • Identify staffing strategies, organizational design improvements and succession planning opportunities or gaps to address future recruitment needs.
  • Support Managerial staff in the development of job postings.
  • Provide Managers with interview skills, strategies and resources to identify candidates with strong cultural and skill alignment.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process and support Managers in providing a positive first impression for new team members.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLNESS:

  • Promote effective strategies and available resources to support employee mental and physical health.
  • Support Managers with employee returns to work after short and long term disability claims.
  • Manage complex benefit claims and facilitate communication between the employer and the benefit provider as well as between the employee and the benefit provider when necessary.
  • Support employee accommodations and fitness for work discussions ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and understood by all stakeholders.

HUMAN RESOURCE INFORMATION SYSTEM:

  • Regular engagement with Managers and their HR Dashboard metrics.
  • Generation of reports and letters on an as need basis.
  • Managing Employee Records, upkeep of all employee documents, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc. ensuring data integrity.
