We are currently looking for Civil Supervisor, Underground Shallow Utilities to work in the Calgary area.

Reporting to the Construction Services Supervisor, the Civil Supervisor is responsible for the day to day construction planning and execution of underground distribution site work. The Civil Supervisor will be responsible for a crew of 2-5 workers. This crew includes Equipment Operators, Laborer’s and Sub Contractors. The Civil Lead is accountable for daily operations on site and the performance of the project in all aspects including safety, material staging and execution for the job. The Civil Supervisor will work closely with the Construction Services Supervisor and their Manager to meet the client inspection representatives’ requirements.  The Civil Supervisor works on site daily and in various weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years in an underground distribution construction role.
  • Knowledge of specifications and practices for underground shallow utilities construction will be mandatory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Excellent logistics and planning skills.
  • Proficient communication and the ability to lead and influence other stakeholders on the project will be an asset.
  • This role involves mobile equipment, public interaction and tight spaces, operational awareness and focus are assets.
  • Able to understand workplace-based problems and analyze them to develop appropriate solutions. You demonstrate superior judgement in all areas of client interaction and finding solutions.
  • The ability to perform a physical job that involves working outside, year-round, in all conditions.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and safe use of hand tools, heavy equipment and excavation are a must.

  • Must have a valid driver’s licence. Class 5 or better.

DUTIES:

  • Safe trenching practices combined with layout and planning of excavation work.
  • Efficient work planning to minimize time on site and produce a top tier quality product.
  • Plan and execute the layout of each project, including checking survey and design drawings prior to start of work.
  • Install pre-cast concrete structures, duct bank, DBII conduit, pull boxes, direct buried cable, Directional Bore for road crossings, hydro vac and install gas line and streetlighting as required.
  • Trench, sand pad and backfill shallow utilities.
  • Understand existing buried facilities and safe excavation practices, Alberta One-Call, confined spaces and basic rigging requirements.
  • Built a high-quality product that is within tolerances and reflects professionalism and a workmanlike result.
  • Review of Bill of Material and check material requirements in advance of installation.
  • Install pre-cast concrete structures, duct bank, DBII conduit, pull boxes, direct buried cable, direction Bore road crossings, hydro vac and install gas line and streetlighting as required.
  • Review of drawings mark up of “As Built” drawings and do unit counts as the build progresses.
  • Coordinate Equipment and schedules with their business unit and companywide.
  • The Supervisor is responsible for and operates a company truck and potentially pulls a trailer to perform site duties.
  • The majority of work is performed around Calgary. However, work out of town may be required.
