Summary
The Junior Commissioning Technologist is responsible for assisting in the testing, inspecting, and commissioning of high voltage power systems and equipment. This includes transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relays. The Junior Commissioning Technologist will troubleshoot and resolve any issues or malfunctions that arise during the commissioning process, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards. The Junior Commissioning Technologist will be actively involved in the isolation of circuits for field crews and will also learn system switching on high-voltage networks.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering, electronics, or a related field.
- 1+ years Experience in Power Systems Commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting, preferably in high voltage environments would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Power Systems theory, operation, and protection.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, architectural, and SCADA flow drawings.
- Communicate with different types of relays such SEL, GE, and Siemens would be considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working at heights and in adverse weather.
Duties
- Participation in pre-work tailboard meetings.
- Perform pre-commissioning checks and inspections to verify that equipment and systems are properly installed and meet design specifications.
- Participate in functional tests and measurements on equipment to verify their performance and functionality.
- Identify and troubleshoot any issues or malfunctions that arise during the commissioning process.
- Document and report the results of commissioning activities and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Coordinate and communicate with applicable parties throughout the commissioning process.
- Follow and enforce safety rules and regulations, such as Permit To Work (PTW), Lock out Tag Out (LOTO), Guarantee Of Isolation (GOI) and electrical lockout procedures.
- System switching, and isolation of critical circuits.
- Overall Accountability: The HV Junior Commissioner will report to the designated Supervisor, ensuring the effective operation of the power system. This role goes beyond day-to-day tasks, involving strategic decision-making to drive overall success.
- Coordination: Active involvement and with all applicable parties within Iconic, in addition to the client to ensure seamless coordination of commissioning operations.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensuring safety protocols and compliance with necessary regulations, throughout all stages.
- Client Interaction: Routine client interaction, providing updates and addressing inquiries related to the Power System.
